  • I’ve been working with Max for over 3 years now, and it’s been a great experience. I initially wanted to build strength, improve my overall fitness, and establish a consistent routine. Since then, I’ve made significant progress in all three, while developing a much better understanding of training and long-term health. What stands out most about Max is his extensive knowledge of exercise science and physiology, and his ability to translate that knowledge into thoughtful, personalized programming. He’s consistently challenged me while adapting our training to my evolving goals. I’d highly recommend him to anyone serious about improving their fitness.

  • I’ve been training with Max for about 2 years now, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I went into my training journey already active but not necessarily knowledgeable about lifting. Beyond the physical progress and strength I’ve gained over the last couple of years, I’ve learned so much about proper technique, program development, etc. Training has become a fundamental part of my routine and an outlet from the stresses of everyday life. I especially enjoy working with Max because he’s extremely knowledgeable and consistently challenges me to achieve more. He’s worked around various injuries, is as accommodating with scheduling as possible, and makes an effort to tailor training to my goals. As a woman, it’s also very important to me to work with a trainer who makes me feel comfortable in a normally male-dominated environment, which Max easily does. I would highly recommend training with him!

  • I’ve been training with Max for the last 3 years, and have seen tremendous progress. Ive gained muscle and improved my overall weaknesses like lower back pain issues. I have more energy overall and max is very knowledge when it comes to human anatomy and knowing how to make adjustments when things are feeling off.

  • I started training with Max wanting to push further in the gym, do it efficiently, and not get hurt along the way.

Since we started working together, I have a much wider range of exercises I’m confident with, my workouts are more targeted, and I’ve learned how to manage and train around injuries instead of letting them derail me.

What stands out most is the enthusiasm Max brings to every session. His passion for the work, paired with his energy, intensity, and intelligence, is as impressive as it is effective. You’ll walk away from every session with some esoteric piece of fitness knowledge that you didn’t have before. Can’t be beat.

  • When I started working with Max, my goals were to increase my strength and improve my overall fitness. I couldn’t be happier with the progress I’ve made, and I know I wouldn’t have achieved these results without his expert guidance.

Max stands out for his deep knowledge of fitness, his ability to create effective programs, and his attention to proper technique. He also takes the time to get to know his clients and understand what works for them. At the start of each session, he listens carefully and makes adjustments when needed. He keeps training fresh and challenging by introducing new workouts that support my goals.

Working with Max has truly transformed my life. His passion and care make workouts enjoyable and something I look forward to. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, thoughtful trainer who can help you make real progress, I highly recommend Max.

Approach

My coaching philosophy is rooted in exercise science, but I don’t think effective training needs to be overly complicated.

When it’s time to work, we work.

  1. The work

I put a lot of thought into how I structure workouts, select exercises, and organize training programs. My goal is to make every session as productive as possible, with an emphasis on quality technique, focused effort, and exercise selection that makes sense for the individual.

  2. Between sets

I like to keep things relaxed and have fun. We might be talking about life, work, or whatever else is going on, or we might spend that time troubleshooting someone’s nutrition, recovery, training schedule, or other habits that influence their progress.

  3. One of my favorite parts of coaching

Getting to know someone well enough to help them figure out how fitness can realistically fit into their life. There’s rarely a perfect solution to every problem, but there are usually practical adjustments we can make to keep someone moving in the right direction.

There’s a big difference between working hard and simply making a workout hard.

— Max

I’m much more interested in getting the most out of the work we’re doing than making someone exhausted for the sake of it. I want clients to understand what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and how we’re progressing toward their goals.

About

Funny enough, I wasn’t always particularly athletic.

I’m Max, a New York City-based personal trainer and strength coach specializing in strength training, muscle building, fat loss, and body recomposition.

I grew up in Western Massachusetts and spent a good chunk of my teenage years playing video games before eventually finding my way into a gym. My introduction to fitness came through CrossFit, which gradually developed into a much deeper interest in lifting weights, building muscle, and understanding how the body responds to exercise.

That interest eventually led me to earn my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from UMass Amherst and my master’s degree in Human Performance and Fitness from CUNY Lehman College, where I had the opportunity to study and conduct research under Dr. Brad Schoenfeld, one of the leading researchers in muscle growth and resistance training.

Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a pretty diverse range of people. My background includes coaching group fitness at Orangetheory, working with collegiate athletes across several sports, and training clients at DOGPOUND in Manhattan. I’ve also been involved in exercise science research and educational content, including work with Renaissance Periodization.

In 2023, I started my own private training business in NYC. Today, I work with everyone from busy professionals looking to get stronger and improve their physiques to experienced lifters interested in taking their training to the next level.

Outside of coaching, I’m an avid lifter and recreational runner. I enjoy putting many of the principles I teach into practice myself and continually exploring how to balance strength, muscle growth, endurance, and everything else life has to offer.
